In the current furniture market, wooden furniture is deeply loved by people. However, there are many types of wood, and the prices vary greatly due to differences in wood properties and output. Commonly used woods in the market are: pine, rubber wood, birch, beech, elm, ash, oak, cherry wood, black walnut, etc.
Different graded wood
Low-grade wood: pine, fir, etc. are relatively soft in texture, and are often used as auxiliary materials for solid wood furniture, such as drawer boards and back boards. It can also be used to make children's furniture, which is cheap, natural and environmentally friendly.
Mid-range wood: Rubberwood is widely used as a hardwood because of its relatively low price. Alder, birch, and oak are similar, and the price is generally not high.
Medium and high-grade wood: Beech and elm have always been commonly used furniture materials in Chinese folk. The price is relatively high-grade imported wood and mahogany are more affordable, both ornamental and practical.
High-grade wood: Mostly imported precious wood. In addition to being used as high-end furniture materials, black walnut, ash, cherry wood, etc. are generally high-quality veneer materials, used as decorative elements.
Pine
It has the highest appearance and cost performance, and is one of the commonly used materials in solid wood furniture. There are two types: masson pine and sylvestris pine. Masson pine is a coniferous plant with soft texture and cheap price. It is widely used in mid-range solid wood furniture. Pinus sylvestris is an important raw material for man-made fiberboard. Pine furniture does not need to be carved, the texture is clear, the lines are delicate, it has a pine fragrance, and there are beautiful scars. However, pine furniture is easy to crack, not resistant to bumps, and cannot bear too much weight. The production process is demanding and requires drying and degreasing.
Cherry wood
Cherry wood is a kind of wood commonly used in the production of solid wood furniture. It has the advantages of good bending performance, high wear resistance, good polishing performance, and soft and elegant patterns. But the hardness is low, the strength is medium, and it is easy to warp. Cherry wood is darker in color and fine in grain, giving it a natural beauty. It is suitable for high-end furniture, but it is easy to crack and warp, so it is not suitable for large-size furniture. Cherry is easy to work with, dries quickly and shrinks a lot, but is dimensionally stable after drying
Rubber wood
Rubberwood is a hardwood that is widely used due to its low cost, and is also used by some major furniture brands. Its growth cycle is not long, so the price is not expensive, suitable for furniture and building materials. The color of rubber wood is light yellowish brown, with messy small rays, obvious annual rings, dark bands around the rings, and few tube holes. The wood structure is thick and uniform, the grain is oblique, and the wood is hard. The advantage is that the cut surface is smooth, easy to glue, and the paint coating performance is good. The disadvantage is that rubber wood has a peculiar smell, and because it contains a lot of sugar, it is easy to change color, rot and insects. It is not easy to dry, not wear-resistant, easy to crack, easy to bend and deform, easy to process wood, and easy to deform plate processing.
Oak
There are three kinds of solid wood furniture: oak, white oak and red oak. There are two types of oak, red oak and white oak, with hard texture, straight grain, thick structure, high mechanical strength, and wear resistance. It is suitable for making furniture such as dining tables. The advantage of oak is that it has a distinct mountain-shaped wood grain, solid texture, firm structure of finished products, and long service life, but there are few high-quality tree species, and the phenomenon of replacing oak with rubber wood is common in the market. Consumers should distinguish the authenticity of oak when purchasing furniture to avoid being deceived.
Birch
Birch is a mid-range solid furniture wood with fine grain and straight and obvious annual rings, and the texture is soft or moderate. Birch is elastic, cracks and warps easily when dry, and is not wear-resistant. Birch is one of the most commonly used materials in solid wood furniture, and it is also one of the most durable materials. Birch's bark is flexible and beautiful, and it is often used for flooring, furniture, pulp, interior decoration materials, plywood, etc. The advantages of birch are easy processing, durability, smooth cut surface, good paint and glue performance, straight and obvious grain, delicate structure, soft and smooth. Its bark is also more flexible and beautiful.
Maple
Maple is a temperate wood native to the south of the Yangtze River Valley. It has two kinds of soft maple and hard maple, the structure is fine and uniform, the texture is light and hard, and the pattern is fine. Maple is easy to process, the cut surface is not smooth, and it is easy to warp when dry. It has good paintability and strong glue. But be aware that there may be warping when drying. Maple has moderate weight, fine structure, easy processing, smooth cutting surface, good finishing and gluing, but warping phenomenon when dry
Basswood
Basswood is a kind of wood with slightly light and soft material, slightly thin structure, silky luster, not easy to crack, processed, painted, colored and cemented. It is resistant to corrosion and slightly warped when dry, but not resistant to corrosion and drying. Basswood is widely used in furniture making, such as chairs, tables, etc. It is light in texture and not easy to deform, so it has good stability and durability. At the same time, basswood is also very beautiful in color and grain, and is often used in decoration and furniture design.
Elm
Elm is a common solid wood furniture wood, mainly produced in temperate regions, with tall trees, all over the north, especially in the Yellow River Basin. The texture of elm is clear and clear, with the pattern of "chicken wing wood". It has good toughness and hardness, moisture resistance, corrosion resistance, easy drying, not easy to deform and crack, and the color is beautiful and generous. The maturity period of elm is generally 40-60 years to hundreds of years, which is suitable for making high-end furniture and decoration. At the same time, it is also suitable for mass consumption and cost-effective furniture materials, especially for traditional Chinese furniture. The advantage is that the texture is tough, elastic, durable and suitable for carving.
Ash
One of the woods commonly used in solid wood furniture is ash, which is a tree species with hard texture, clear and beautiful texture, and good decorative properties. Fraxinus mandshurica grows in Northeast China, North China and Russia, and belongs to the third-level protected tree species in China. It is light in texture and very strong in corrosion resistance. The processed products can be used for a long time. It is easy to process with cutting tools. It can be fixed well with nails, screws and glue. It can be dyed and polished to obtain a good surface. Fraxinus mandshurica is very similar to ash wood but not ash wood. The origin, grain and performance of the two are different. Fraxinus mandshurica panels are used in the largest proportion in ash decorative panels. The reason for using this kind of panels is inseparable from its characteristics.
